Treating Chronic Pain
Deep Tissue vs. Muscle Release Techniques
When there is trauma or injury to a muscle, the result
is adhesions and scar tissue in the fibers of the muscle. This results
in a shortened muscle. In massage school, we learned specific deep tissue
techniques to help break up these adhesions and scar tissue to give
our clients relief from their pain.
Treating Plantar Fasciitis:
An Unknown Therapy
Heel-Spur Syndrome
Plantar Fasciitis is also known as heel-spur syndrome.
It is a common problem among people who are active in sports, particularly
runners. It starts as a dull, intermittent pain in the heel. If not
treated correctly, it will progress to a sharp, persistent pain. Classic
symptoms include pain that is worse with the first few steps in the
morning, pain after sitting or standing for prolonged periods, and pain
at the beginning of a sporting activity. Problems may occur when part
of this inflexible fascia is repeatedly placed under tension. This can
occur in various situations, such as running or when people who sit
at a desk hold their heels off the floor for long periods of time.
Patella Tracking Dysfunction - Discovering the truth
Many people, from athletes to gymnasts to housewives to construction workers, suffer from a patella-tracking problem. Runners are especially prone to this disorder. Some runners are diagnosed with runner's knee. This problem presents itself as a localized pain around and under the kneecap. Many times it is accompanied by popping, clicking or grinding noises as the patient runs or walks.
